The Benzie County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 10 adopted the 2024–25 General Appropriation Act and fiscal year budget, authorizing Chair Bob Roelofs to sign the county L-4029 form. The measure included a technical change moving $3,000 from a transfer to the airport fund into contingency.
The motion to adopt the budget was made by Commissioner Warsecke and seconded by Commissioner Cunningham. The roll-call vote recorded Cunningham, Markey, Nye, Roelofs, Sauer and Warsecke as voting yes; Commissioner Jeannot voted no.
The adoption fulfills procedural requirements for the county’s fiscal year and sets the spending plan the board will use for general operations. County Treasurer Kelly Long told the board auditors will perform preliminary work Oct. 14–15 and return the first week of December for the fiscal audit.
The board’s action does not specify program-level line-item detail in the motion; the signed L-4029 and accompanying budget documents are the official record of appropriations. Auditors’ forthcoming review will further validate the fiscal year figures and fund balances.
Next steps: the Chair will sign the L-4029 as authorized, and the county will proceed with year-start budget operations and the scheduled audit work.
