County staff seeks volunteers to update Charlevoix County Parks & Recreation Plan

Charlevoix County Planning Director Kiersten Stark told the Planning Commission on Feb. 6 that the County Parks & Recreation Plan requires an update and that she plans to form a committee to oversee the project.
Stark proposed a working group composed of two Planning Commission members, two parks committee members, the Planning Director and the Parks Manager. She said she is drafting a Request for Proposals for outside planning assistance; firms will be interviewed and a recommendation made to the Board of Commissioners. Nancy Ferguson volunteered to serve on the committee and Stark said she will provide printed copies of the current Parks & Recreation Plan and Future Land Use Plan to commissioners ahead of the next meeting.
Stark noted that once the Parks & Recreation Plan is updated, the County’s Future Land Use Plan will also need review. The Planning Commission will consider the proposed RFP scope at a future meeting and then review consultant proposals and interviews before forwarding a recommendation to the Board.
