Planning commission recommends FY 2026 Planning Department budget, plans East Jordan tour

The Charlevoix County Planning Commission reviewed the proposed FY 2026 Planning Department budget, voted to recommend it to the Board of Commissioners, and agreed to schedule a site tour of East Jordan-area development during an August or September meeting.
Planning Director Kiersten Stark presented the proposed FY 2026 Planning Department budget at the June 5 meeting and reviewed each line item. After discussion about departmental priorities and outreach, commissioners agreed to schedule a tour of the East Jordan area tied to an August or September meeting to view new development and redevelopment opportunities; Commissioner David Wheeler will contact City of East Jordan and South Arm Township officials to build a list of potential sites and Stark said she would arrange County Transit bus transportation for the tour.
On a motion by Marshal Bakker, seconded by David Wheeler, the commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the proposed FY 2026 Planning Department budget to the Board of Commissioners.
Other administrative business at the meeting included the approval of the May 1, 2025 minutes and routine correspondence and webinar announcements.
