Canton Mayor and Board approve year-end budget amendments, Labor Day ordinance and Hyatt Pipeline contract

CANTON, N.C. — The Canton Mayor and Board of Aldermen/women approved multiple administrative actions at a special meeting on June 28, including year-end budget amendments, a capital amendment for the town wastewater treatment project and a contract with Hyatt Pipeline.
Finance Officer Natalie Walker presented the year-end budget amendments and a separate capital amendment for the WWTP project. Alderman Hamlett moved to approve the year-end amendments; Alderwoman Shepard seconded and the motion carried. Hamlett made a separate motion to approve the WWTP capital amendment; Shepard seconded and the motion carried.
Interim Town Manager Stinnett presented an amended Labor Day ordinance. Alderwoman Proctor moved to approve the ordinance; Alderman Hamlett seconded and the motion carried.
Stinnett also presented a contract with Hyatt Pipeline; Alderman Hamlett moved to approve the contract and Alderman Shepard seconded. The board voted to approve the contract.
At 1:33 p.m., on a motion by Alderman Hamlett seconded by Alderman Shepard the board entered a closed session under North Carolina General Statutes § 143-318.11(a)(4) to discuss economic development. The board returned to open session at 2:54 p.m. after further discussion on a motion by Alderman Hamlett with Alderwoman Proctor seconding.
The meeting adjourned at 2:54 p.m. The board’s next scheduled meeting is Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall, 85 Summer Street.
