Commissioners discuss using opioid settlement funds to hire corrections officers and support recovery services

Blessinger said the Justice, Reentry and Addiction Committee (JRAC) recommended using the remaining funds in these ways: $21,200 to support hiring two correction officers at Community Corrections, $10,000 for Dove House, and $4,800 for Next Steps Recovery to bolster local services. The board discussed the proposal but took no formal action; commissioners expressed a consensus to support Community Corrections positions that staff expect will be requested in January.
No final appropriation or contract awards were made at the meeting. Commissioners asked for further information and indicated they expect a staffing request for Community Corrections at the next meeting.
