Veteran Services officer to depart; veterans urge county to fund full-time service officer

Veteran Services Officer Susan Bramlet told Dubois County commissioners on Nov. 18 that she has resigned effective Nov. 27, 2024, and presented the board with a request to expand staff in the Veteran Services Office to improve service capacity.
Daryl Hensley, commander of DAV Chapter 77 Dubois County, read a prepared statement urging the county to restore or create a full-time service officer position to better serve veterans. Hensley said, “An office that is well-staffed, well-trained, and well-paid can grow the county’s revenue in an abundance of ways.” David Flynn, a retired Marine Corps veteran and volunteer, and Boone Taylor, CEO of Operation Mind Body & Soul, attended the meeting in support of the request.
Bramlet described service needs and the rationale for more staff to handle veterans’ claims and services; the minutes record the request and attendance by supporters but do not record a formal motion or vote on staffing at the meeting.
