Dubois County commissioners approve routine minutes, personnel updates and minute-book scanning; nominate Tim Gudorf to sewer board

Interim Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken reported that part-time employee Larry Betz will retire at the end of November and that Mark Lueken will replace him. Lueken said the department screened 12 truck-driver applicants but many lacked CDLs or lived outside the county; four candidates will be interviewed and the department hopes to hire two drivers with a projected start date of Dec. 9, 2024. The board set the opening date for annual material bids as Nov. 18, 2024.
A motion to close county sanitation sites on Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) and Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) carried 2-0. Recorder Jaclyn McPherron and Stephen Capps proposed scanning Commission and County Council minute books dated before 2008; Capps estimated about 1–2.5 hours per book for roughly 35 books with a total cost near $2,500, and the board approved scanning pending County Council approval to increase the part-time records librarian wage to $15 per hour (motion carried 2-0).
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger nominated Tim Gudorf to fill the unexpired term of Aaron Berg on the Regional Sewer District Board; the nomination was approved and the term will expire Jan. 31, 2027. Commissioner Blessinger also reported that rip rap will not be installed at the St. Charles Annex bank as previously discussed; custodian Scott Hopf has seeded the area instead. The next regular meeting is set for Nov. 18, 2024, at 8:00 a.m.
Several items recorded consensus directions (for example, improvements to right-of-way permits and seeking County Council funding for bridge design) and routine votes were recorded as carried 2-0 in the minutes; the transcript did not record movers or seconders for those motions.
