Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt told the Dubois County Commissioners that Bridge No. 78 (600 West and Division Road) over the Patoka River needs rehabilitation to strengthen the deck, correct bridge joints, upgrade railings and possibly repair beams. Wendholt presented a proposal from American Structurepoint to design the necessary corrections and prepare bid documents at a cost of $93,000.
Commissioners gave consensus to seek funding approval from the County Council and to return at a future meeting for formal approval of the project. Wendholt also reported that Lochmueller Group offered a $500 contract to assist with the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program application for railing safety improvements; the board signaled consensus to proceed with that assistance. Wendholt further recommended revising the county’s Right-of-Way Utility Permit and adding an associated fee to regulate utility/contractor applications and cover review time.
The transcript records consensus directions rather than a formal motion to appropriate funds; the board intends to request County Council funding before awarding design work or construction bids.
