Commissioners declare surplus items, approve temporary job-shadowing and note community projects and solar concerns

The Dubois County Commissioners approved multiple procedural items at their Sept. 3 meeting, including several surplus declarations and a temporary job-shadow position to cover an administrative assistant leaving later this year.
Auditor Sandra L. Morton presented a list of items to be declared surplus across departments — including a Panasonic typewriter for the Prosecutor, a Samsung cell phone for Community Corrections and three validators for the Treasurer — and the commission carried the motion to declare the items surplus. Health Department Administrative Director Shawn Werner separately requested disposal of a conference table and video-conference equipment; the commission declared those items surplus as well.
Community Corrections Director Wyatt Madden asked the commission to approve a temporary part-time job-shadow position (28 hours/week for roughly five pay periods) to cover the departing Administrative Assistant; the commission approved the position pending County Council approval and set the wage classification at COMOT II.
Commissioner Chad Blessinger updated members on an Eagle Scout project by Sam Osterman to place a POW/MIA monument on the west Courthouse lawn; Osterman is presenting to the Scout Review Board.
Auditor Morton distributed articles provided by County Councilmember Alex Hohl about concerns other counties have experienced with solar parks; the articles were discussed but no formal action was taken. Commissioner Nick Hostetter also reported the Regional Sewer District Board will meet Sept. 16, 2024. Commissioners discussed preparing an RFP for county comprehensive planning services and set the next regular meeting for Sept. 16, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.
