Dubois County to add AEDs and CPR training; approves asphalt contract extension and change orders

An employee stroke in a county parking lot prompted Dubois County commissioners on Sept. 16 to agree to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) and to provide CPR training for Highway Department employees, Highway Superintendent Steve Berg reported.
Berg told the board that all rejuvenation road projects are complete and that Asphalt Materials requested an extension of the 2024 liquid asphalt contract through the 2025 construction season. The commissioners moved to approve the contract extension; the motion carried unanimously.
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt presented change orders for two HMA projects: Project 24-02 (700 North & 200 West) with a net increase of $879.00 and Project 24-04 (15th Street & Meridian Road) with a net decrease of $1,626.54; the board approved those change orders unanimously. Wendholt also reported that Bridge #254 (St. Anthony Road West) is complete and open to traffic and that the bridge crew is pressure-washing decks and applying a concrete sealer to protect against salt-chloride damage.
Upcoming work includes replacement of a large pipe and addition of headwalls on County Road 600 West (Ferdinand Forest Road), scheduled to begin the week of Oct. 7, 2024, and replacement of a concrete bridge deck on First Street in Huntingburg (work to begin the week of Oct. 21, 2024), which may include beam repairs where salts have caused rebar corrosion.
