Tourism director previews new capital-improvement grant and presents tourism metrics

Whitney Lubbers, Tourism Executive Director, presented the Dubois County Tourism Commission’s update at the July 29 meeting, reviewing 2022 metrics and introducing a new capital-improvement grant program.
Lubbers said 2022 visitor spending was $117 million, tourism sales per capita was $2,687.86 and tourism spending growth was 16.5%. She announced the Dubois County Tourism Capital Improvement Fund, a competitive 1:1 matching grant program open to all entities with awards between $10,000 and $75,000 and preference for larger projects. Applications are due in September 2024. Lubbers also presented the Tourism Commission’s proposed 2025 budget of $685,000.
Council members discussed the program and budget; no formal action was taken at the meeting and applications and budget details will be considered in the coming budget-review process.
