Commissioners include several nonprofit funding requests in 2025 budget pending County Council approval

At the June 17 meeting, the Dubois County Commissioners agreed to include multiple nonprofit and program funding requests in the county’s 2025 Commissioner budget, subject to County Council approval.
Carla Striegel-Winner requested a $258,000 appropriation for the Solid Waste Management District for 2025; the board approved the request pending County Council approval. Becky Michael of LifeSpring Health Systems described services in Dubois County — residential group homes, school-based services, substance-use treatment, employee assistance programs and an opening Hope Center residential facility in Jasper — and commissioners reached consensus to include annual funding; the precise amount will be determined by the Department of Local Government Finance in July 2024.
Melissa Sharp of SIRS presented the 2023 annual report and requested $40,000 for 2025; Sharp said SIRS provided services to 310 residents, logged 43,346 service hours, provided 6,187 one-way trips through Link-N-Go and served 180 children up to age three. Carie Dick of the Habig Community Center requested $20,000 for Older Americans programming. Julie Stuart requested $5,000 for Adult Protective Services, noting that 2025 will be the last year the program is associated with the County Prosecutors. All requests were agreed to be included in the Commissioner budget pending County Council approval.
The board recorded these funding requests for presentation to the Department of Local Government Finance and County Council this summer.
