The Dubois County Council approved a $186,000 emergency expenditure from American Rescue Plan Act funds to update and repair the county’s simulcast paging system after the system was down for about two hours.
911 Director Stuart Wilson reported the system outage prevented paging to fire and EMS for approximately two hours; a vendor performed a temporary repair with used parts. Wilson presented a vendor quote of $186,000 to update equipment on the county’s three towers.
President Michael W. Kluesner moved to expend ARPA funds for the emergency update; Daryl Schmitt seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Wilson also reported a telecommunicator resignation and said applications will be accepted to fill the vacancy.
The council’s vote clears funds for a system upgrade intended to restore reliable paging to county emergency responders. No timetable for the full equipment replacement was provided in the meeting record.
