Commissioners accept INDOT low bid and greenlight bridge and paving work

Dubois County commissioners on June 17 accepted the low bid from C&R Construction for INDOT CCMG 2024-01 and approved related highway procurement and project schedules.
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt reported C&R Construction submitted the low bid of $1,113,981.75 and the board accepted the bid and presented Bid Form 96 for signatures. Wendholt also requested replenishing the Bridge Crew’s rebar stockpile and presented multiple vendor quotes; the board approved a $34,076.00 quote from Castlen Steel.
Wendholt reported Bridge #254 (St. Anthony Road West) was closed on June 17 to tear out the existing structure and scheduled pile driving for June 24; the project is expected to take approximately two months. He also described a Meridian Road speed study that supported a 45 mph limit and noted HB 1090 grants the commissioners authority to adjust speed limits; the board kept the limit at 45 mph.
The Highway Superintendent, Steve Berg, provided a chip seal paving schedule and said projects are 33% complete with costs running below estimates; several overlay and paving dates through July and August were discussed.
