Grant County Weed Board authorizes budget transfers, conference funding and reappointments

At its Oct. 15 meeting the Grant County Weed Board approved multiple budget and administrative actions, including a set of reserve transfers and routine authorizations for conference attendance and community outreach.
Dick Woodbury moved, and Drew Gaugler seconded, to give County Auditor Sara Meier the authority to reallocate reserve funds among budget lines to cover overspent items. The motion specified the following transfers: $500 into retirement, $5,000 into technology, $2,000 into repair/maintenance (machinery), $25,000 into chemical, and $500 into biocontrol. The motion carried.
Merlin Leithold reported a fund balance of $17,705.11 as of Oct. 1, bills presented at the meeting totaled $11,981.32, and income received that night was $7,796.81. Vendors and charges listed in the minutes included phone service ($85.88), a Visa charge for a Canon printer and late fees ($606.48), fuel ($305.17), Merlin's per diem ($178.75), pesticide recertification ($150.00) and ND Weed Control Association membership dues ($285.00). Board salaries listed were: Leonard $117.88, Dick $80.36, Walker $116.54 and Drew $127.26.
On conference and sponsorship items, the board voted to pay per diem for Merlin to attend the North Dakota Weed Control Association (NDWCA) annual conference, scheduled Feb. 3-6, 2025 in Bismarck at the Bismarck Hotel, and to pay per diem and registration for any board members who notify Merlin. The board also agreed to sponsor 50% ($300) of the Wednesday luncheon entertainment (the Blue Stems band), matching another county that covers the other half.
Other administrative actions: the board authorized Merlin to pay routine bills during the offseason, approved purchasing a $40 booth for the Grant County Ag. Show on Nov. 13 in Carson, and instructed Merlin to send a letter to the county commissioners requesting reappointment of board members Marty Meyer and Dick Woodbury whose terms expire Dec. 31, 2024. The meeting set the next regular meeting for March 18, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. MDT and adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
