Novus Ag pitches premixed generic herbicide blends to Grant County Weed Board

Claire Volk, a representative of Novus Ag, told the Grant County Weed Board on Sept. 17 that her company’s generic herbicide products “rival name brand chemicals” and can be supplied premixed in 5-gallon cubes up to 250-gallon totes to simplify field mixing. The presentation took place during new business at the board’s meeting in Carson.
The board heard Volk explain that Novus Ag works with generic manufacturers to provide warranties and quality assurances comparable to brand-name products. She described a premix service that would allow landowners or spray crews to measure a set number of ounces per acre from a single cube or tote, add water and spray, rather than combining multiple jugs on site.
Merlin Leithold, the weed officer and secretary, said the board was receptive and that he would look further into the offering. He indicated the board might request the county include premixed generics in the March bidding process for chemical suppliers.
Board members did not take a vote on the proposal at the Sept. 17 meeting. The matter was discussed as an informational presentation and possible procurement option; any formal change to the board’s purchasing or bid specifications would be addressed in a future bidding cycle.
If the board pursues premixed generics in bidding, members said they expect staff to confirm warranty terms, labeling compliance, handling and storage requirements and pricing comparisons with current suppliers before any procurement decision.
