Morton County Commission approves multiple abatements, payroll and an employee vacation rollover

The Morton County Commission on March 26 approved routine business and a series of motions addressing property tax abatements, payroll and a personnel request.
Chair Nathan Boehm called the regular meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Commissioners Zachmeier, Leingang, Buckley and Morrell, Auditor Dawn R. Rhone, State's Attorney Koppy and Sheriff Kirchmeier were present. Commissioner Morrell moved, and Commissioner Leingang seconded, to approve the agenda with an addition; the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Buckley moved and Commissioner Zachmeier seconded to approve the minutes of the March 14, 2024 regular meeting; that motion also carried unanimously. Commissioner Leingang moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded to approve county bills and payroll. On roll call, Leingang, Morrell, Zachmeier, Buckley and Chair Boehm voted aye and the motion carried.
The commission approved multiple grouped property-tax abatements in a sequence of motions. Approved abatement groups included #6456–6482; #6483–6486 and #6490; #6487–6489 and #6491–6510; #6511–6524; #6525; #6526; #6527; #6528–6529; #6530; #6531; and #6532–6533. Each abatement motion was made, seconded and recorded as carrying with all commissioners voting aye.
On personnel business, Commissioner Morrell moved and Commissioner Leingang seconded to approve a rollover of 66.25 hours of vacation for Chase Lingle to be used by Sept. 30, 2024. The motion carried; the commission recorded that if the hours are not used by that date, State's Attorney Koppy will need to address the commission.
Commissioner Leingang moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded to authorize the chair to sign a letter of support for the Department of Energy Transmission Siting and Economic Development Program; that motion carried unanimously.
Auditor Rhone reported that total county funds expended from March 15 through March 26, 2024 equaled $891,115.96 and said a detailed list of checks is available for public inspection at the Morton County Auditor’s Office during regular business hours. The commission adjourned later that evening (meeting end time recorded in the minutes as 6:59 p.m.).
