Morton County Commission approves bridge bid, adopts road policies and makes board appointments

At its June 25 meeting in Mandan the Morton County Commission approved a $785,334.48 low bid for a bridge replacement, adopted four roadway/mailing policies, approved five tax abatements, certified $1,755,080.73 in expenditures and confirmed multiple three- and four-year board appointments.
The Morton County Commission met June 25, 2024, at the Morton County Courthouse in Mandan and, during a 5:30–6:39 p.m. session, approved a package of infrastructure, policy and personnel actions.
The commission accepted the low bid of $785,334.48 from Martin Construction to replace Bridge 30-153-04.0. The motion to accept the bid passed on a roll-call vote with Commissioners Morrell, Zachmeier, Buckley and Chair Nathan Boehm recorded as voting aye.
Commissioners also approved four county policies addressing roadway and right-of-way management: Policy 700-010, Traffic Safety Hazard – Obstructions on Roadway; Policy 700-013, Mowing Roadway Right-of-Ways; Policy 700-006, Private Road Maintenance; and Policy 700-712, Mailbox Repair - Replacement. Each policy was adopted on motions that carried unanimously.
A set of tax abatements #6606–6610 were approved in separate motions; each motion carried with all voting aye. The commission approved routine items including the agenda and minutes from the June 6 regular meeting and the June 6 Board of Equalization meeting, and the board approved bills and payroll for the period.
The commission made several appointments to local boards and commissions. Chair Nathan Boehm was appointed as the commission’s representative to the Morton-Mandan Library board for a three-year term ending June 30, 2027; Natasha Bohl and Jenetta Padilla were also appointed to the Morton-Mandan Library board for three-year terms ending June 30, 2027. Additional appointments approved included Heidi Peltz and Lori Flaten to the Three River Human Service Zone board (three-year terms), Maria Tomac, Carter Berger and Jesse Kist to the Planning & Zoning board (four-year terms ending June 30, 2028), Tom Conlin and Maxine Rugland to the School Reorganization board (three-year terms), and Shannon Boehm to the Special Assessment Commission for a six-year term expiring June 30, 2030. All appointments were made by unanimous vote.
The commission reported total county funds expended from June 6 through June 25, 2024, of $1,755,080.73 and noted that a detailed list of expenditures by check is available for public inspection at the Morton County Auditor’s Office during regular business hours.
The meeting adjourned at 6:39 p.m. following a motion by Commissioner Morrell, seconded by Commissioner Zachmeier, which carried unanimously.
