Gove County commissioners approve routine business, discuss sheriff's license-plate reader request and equipment needs

Adam Teeter, chairman of the Gove County Commissioners, called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 26 at the Gove County Office Building. Commissioners Chuck Kuntz and Joe Schmidtberger and County Attorney Steve Hirsch were present; Bonnie Cook served as clerk.
The board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Teeter, seconded by Commissioner Joe Schmidtberger. The minutes record routine procedural business early in the session, including a six-month employee evaluation for Trevis Hrabe.
County Attorney Steve Hirsch raised a request from the sheriff to obtain license-plate reader equipment for law-enforcement use. The minutes record discussion of the request but do not show a motion, procurement decision or specifications; no purchase was approved at the meeting.
Presenters Erin Lammers and Melissa Hanna joined at 9:05 a.m. to discuss taxing units 29 and 31; the commissioners recorded that further research is required. Erin also asked the board about obtaining a cell phone for the Appraiser's Office and updating the office tablet; the board did not record an immediate purchase decision.
Hirsch then requested an executive session for attorney—lient privilege. Commissioner Charles Kuntz moved to enter executive session from 9:31 a.m. to 9:41 a.m.; Schmidtberger seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes note the session but do not disclose privileged matters.
Brock Maier reported on prairie dog issues, said he will attend the CWDAK Annual Conference in March and noted his appointment as vice president of the West District Weed Directors Association. He also offered assistance with snow removal at county buildings. Later, Matt Wolf reported delivering aluminum cans to Colby and completing a Household Hazardous Waste refresher course.
On routine business the board approved amended minutes (motion by Joe Schmidtberger; second by Charles Kuntz), approved Accounts Payable checks from 2025 (74290—6/74292) and 2026 (74293—6/74338) on a motion by Kuntz seconded by Schmidtberger, and approved add-and-abate tax items numbered 2026000010—62026000024, 2026000026—62026000040, 2026000042—62026000045 and 2026000052 (motion by Kuntz; second by Schmidtberger). All recorded motions carried by unanimous vote.
Curtis Renz told the commissioners the three-year contract for the office-building security cameras is expiring; the board said it is awaiting an additional vendor quote before committing to a new contract. Trina Gruber and David Stithem joined at 11:30 a.m.; David discussed the possibility of sharing an Emergency Management employee with Sheridan County as a staffing approach, but no agreement was recorded.
Commissioner Joe Schmidtberger moved to adjourn at 12:16 p.m.; Commissioner Kuntz seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes were signed by Bonnie Cook, Gove County Clerk, and the three commissioners.
