Ellsworth County adopts awareness proclamations, reviews procurement scorecard and approves small abatement

Ellsworth County commissioners on Jan. 26 adopted proclamations designating January 2026 as Human Trafficking Awareness and as Stalking Awareness and handled several routine administrative items, including a small tax abatement and a clarification on Neighborhood Revitalization Program extensions.
Via telephone, Jacyln Lawerence, representing DVACK, read proclamations for Human Trafficking and Stalking Awareness. Commissioner Shawn Thomas moved to recognize Human Trafficking Awareness for January 2026; Commissioner Dennis L. Rolfs seconded and the motion carried 3-0. Commissioner Rolfs then moved to declare January 2026 as Stalking Awareness; Thomas seconded and the motion carried 3-0.
Also by phone, Sydney Goldberg of Goldberg Group Architects said interviews were conducted last week for a contract manager and that she would send a scorecard comparing Hutton and KBS for the commissioners to review before deciding next Monday.
Kristina Silva, the county appraiser, told the board that two individuals had gone past their one-year extension under the Ellsworth County Neighborhood Revitalization Program; the commissioners agreed each may have only one additional year of extension. Commissioner Shawn Thomas moved to approve abatement 2025-76 for $227.48; Commissioner Dennis L. Rolfs seconded and the motion carried 3-0.
