Gove County commissioners reorganize leadership, approve routine financial policies

At their Jan. 12 meeting the Gove County Board of Commissioners appointed Adam Teeter chair and Joe Schmidtberger vice-chair, designated the Gove County Advocate as the official newspaper, set banks and securities, and approved KMAAG to complete the county's financial statements.
The Gove County Board of Commissioners reorganized and approved several routine administrative and financial actions at its Jan. 12 meeting. Commissioner Adam Teeter was appointed chairman and Commissioner Joe Schmidtberger was named vice-chairman in unanimous votes. The board also designated the Gove County Advocate as the county's official newspaper and set the Internal Revenue Service mileage reimbursement at 72.5 cents per mile.
The commissioners named The Bank and Equity Bank as official depositories for county funds and set acceptable pledging securities for those banks, including Bankers Bank of Kansas, Security Bank, Commerce Bank, the Kansas Collateral Pool Program and irrevocable letters of credit from the Federal Home Loan Bank. The board approved continued membership in several intergovernmental and regional organizations, including the Kansas Association of Counties and NACO.
The board approved Resolution 2026-1 authorizing KMAAG to complete the county's financial statements and reports for the year. Commissioners also set the courthouse's last public-open day as Dec. 30, 2026, and approved closure for year-end processing on Dec. 31, 2026. All motions on these matters carried by unanimous vote.
Actions recorded in the minutes included approval of add-and-abate filings and accounts payable check runs and an approval of amended minutes. The meeting convened with routine opening business and concluded after a county tour and adjournment.
The board is scheduled to meet every other Monday beginning Jan. 12, 2026, with exceptions noted by the commissioners.
