Ware County hearing considers rezoning at 1942 Hazel Street to allow single‑wide manufactured home

The Ware County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing Nov. 11 on a request to rezone 1942 Hazel Street (parcel 051A04 041F) from R-50 (residential) to R-50 MH (residential mobile home) so the applicant can place a single‑wide manufactured home for his granddaughter.
Planning & Codes Assistant Director Dustin Minchew explained the applicant, Ronney Howell, seeks rezoning of the rear portion of the property; Minchew said part of the parcel is already zoned R-50 MH. Commissioner Timmy Lucas asked whether a recently passed ordinance affects the orientation of the home; Planning & Codes Director James Shubert confirmed the ordinance requires the mobile home to be set parallel to the road.
The county’s Planning Commission reviewed the request and recommended approval. Chairman Elmer Thrift asked for public comments in support of or in opposition to the rezoning and none were offered during the hearing. No commissioner comments were recorded during the public hearing.
Commissioner Timmy Lucas moved to adjourn the public hearing; Commissioner Jerry Pope seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The public hearing closed at 4:49 p.m. The rezoning request was added to the Regular Meeting agenda for future consideration; a proposed approval date was recorded as April 14, 2025.
