Ware County board names Melinda Brooks interim county manager, appoints Melissa Bennett deputy clerk

The Ware County Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 17 to appoint Melinda L. Brooks as interim county manager, effective Oct. 15, and to name Melissa Bennett deputy county clerk.
Commissioner Sammy Hendricks moved to appoint Melinda L. Brooks; Commissioner Timmy Lucas seconded. During discussion, Chairman Elmer Thrift said former County Manager Scott Moye should be removed from all county bank accounts and that Interim County Manager Melinda L. Brooks should be added. The motion passed in a roll-call vote with Commissioner Leonard Burse, Commissioner Timmy Lucas, Commissioner Sammy Hendricks and Chairman Elmer Thrift voting aye; Commissioner Jerry Pope was recorded absent.
On a separate item the board accepted Resolution 2024-27 to appoint Melissa Bennett as deputy county clerk. Commissioner Leonard Burse moved the appointment; Commissioner Timmy Lucas seconded. The motion passed by the same roll-call pattern: Burse, Lucas, Hendricks and Chairman Thrift voting aye and Commissioner Pope absent. The board adjourned the special called meeting at 1:40 p.m. The minutes from this meeting are proposed for approval April 14, 2025.
