Tift County schedules tax write-offs, procurement items and an alcohol-license review for Feb. 12; board votes to enter executive session

At its Feb. 6 workshop the Tift County Board of Commissioners indicated approval to place several items on the Feb. 12 regular meeting agenda and later voted to enter an executive session for legal and personnel.
Tax Commissioner Chad Alexander asked the board to write off $120,346.53 in taxes tied to accounts the office considers inactive and not sellable at tax sale; the board directed staff to include the request on the Feb. 12 agenda. County Manager Jim Carter presented three quotes to pressure wash and paint the courthouse; he said Dependable Paint Company was the low bid at $42,500 and that work would include pressure washing the façade and concrete, removing storm windows, priming and painting wood around windows and reinstalling windows; the board indicated it would place the item on the Consent Agenda.
Carter said bids for the GSP hangar project came in well above the estimated cost and recommended rejecting all bids so the project can be included in GSP's FY25 budget. County Clerk Miriam Jordan said a new alcohol-beverage license application from Chetan Patel for Jiya and Niya LLC at 2473 US Highway 82 E was required because a renewal was not submitted; the sheriff reviewed the application and recommended approval, and the board indicated it would place the license on the Consent Agenda.
Near the end of the workshop Commissioner Melissa Hughes moved to enter an executive session "for the purpose of Legal and Personnel." Commissioner Fred "Buck" Rigdon seconded; the motion carried 6-0 with Chairman Tony McBrayer voting. The workshop was adjourned following the executive session motion.
