Tifton asks Tift County to add 'Housing Revitalization' to Service Delivery Strategy to pursue CHIP and CDBG grants

Tifton City Manager Emily Beeman asked the Tift County Board Feb. 6 to amend the Service Delivery Strategy to include "Housing Revitalization," allowing the city (and Ty Ty and Omega) to complete DCA Form 2 and Form 4 and apply for CHIP and CDBG grants to support housing repair and assistance. The county manager will work with Tifton staff to prepare required forms for board consideration at the Feb. 12 meeting.
Tifton City Manager Emily Beeman asked the Tift County Board of Commissioners at its Feb. 6 workshop to amend the county's Service Delivery Strategy to include "Housing Revitalization," a change she said is necessary for the city to pursue state grant programs. Beeman said that for the City of Tifton to apply for a CHIP grant and a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) the Department of Community Affairs forms (DCA Form 2 and Form 4) must be approved by the county and the cities of Tifton, Ty Ty and Omega.
Beeman distributed photos of a couple of structures that would be potential recipients of the grant funds and said she and County Manager Jim Carter would prepare the DCA forms for the participating jurisdictions. County Manager Jim Carter confirmed staff would work with the city to prepare the paperwork and the board indicated a desire to place the item on the Feb. 12 regular meeting agenda for formal consideration.
No substantive opposition or public comment was recorded at the workshop. If approved by the participating jurisdictions, the change would enable Tifton's pursuit of CHIP and CDBG funds intended for housing repair and revitalization projects.
