Tift County approves engineering addendum for GSP hangar project as state funding remains paused

County Manager Jim Carter told the Board the engineering and design work are complete, which makes the project shovel-ready, but the State has no available funding in its FY24 or FY25 budgets.
The Board approved splitting the engineering and design cost of $133,322.70 according to the initial funding breakdown recommended by staff: 30% Tift County, 30% Development Authority, 20% Airport Authority and 20% State. Commissioner Greg Wood moved to approve the Watkins & Associates addendum; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Stan Stalnaker and carried 5-0.
The decision followed a consent-agenda motion earlier in the meeting to reject all bids for the GSP Hangar project. The record indicates the county now holds a shovel-ready design but must wait for state or other funding to proceed with construction.
