Tift County workshop forwards seven items to March 11 consent agenda, including truck purchase and bridge engineering addendum

The Tift County Board of Commissioners on March 5 signaled it would advance seven staff-recommended items to the March 11 consent agenda, covering equipment, fees, easements and professional services.
County Manager Jim Carter told the board that the Community Development Services Director's pickup has more than 130,000 miles and needs major repairs. Staff solicited six bids and recommended accepting the low bid of $53,387 from Woody Folsom Baxley; Carter said the purchase would be paid from interest earned on ARPA funds.
Environmental Health County Manager Jill Reade said the County Board of Health approved new environmental health fees and that state law requires the governing authority to adopt them; the board directed staff to place Resolution No. 2024-04 on the consent agenda for March 11.
Public Works Director Jason Jordan presented three items: easements Georgia Power needs for a pickleball court and for work at EB Hamilton Park; an addendum to Watkins & Associates' contract to allow preparation of bid documents and advertising for construction of a bridge on Red Oak Road; and a replacement rotary mowing head and Lexan safety glass for the county's Energreen mower, offered at a discounted price of $18,268.25 because the existing head is not repairable.
Carter said staff has used architect John McCall of McCall and Associates for preliminary consulting and a current/future needs study for courthouse and associated county building renovations; staff recommended selecting McCall as project design professional and asked the board to direct the county attorney and manager to negotiate a professional services agreement for board consideration at the April meeting.
County Clerk Miriam Jordan said applicant Nizarali Jafarali seeks Retail Malt Beverage Package and Retail Wine Package licenses for Tifton 2509 Inc at 2509 South Main Street; the sheriff recommended approval and the item was placed on the March 11 consent agenda.
No votes were taken at the workshop. Each item will appear on the March 11 regular meeting consent agenda for board action or further discussion.
