The Screven County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Will Boyd as chairman and Commissioner J.C. Warren as vice-chair during its Jan. 11, 2022 meeting at the Screven County Courthouse.
County Attorney Hubert Reeves conducted the elections. Commissioner J.C. Warren nominated Boyd for chairman; the motion, seconded by Commissioner Rosa Romeo, was recorded as carried by majority vote with Commissioners Warren, Romeo, Triplett, Dixon and Lovett voting in favor and Commissioner Allison Willis opposing. The minutes record the motion as carried; individual votes beyond those listed were not recorded in the minutes.
Romeo nominated Warren for vice-chair; Commissioner Willis seconded and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
Why it matters: Leadership elections determine committee assignments and who sets meeting agendas. With Boyd as chairman and Warren as vice-chair, the board affirmed its top officers going into the 2022 agenda cycle.
Other business: The board unanimously approved its amended agenda (moving public comment to after agenda approval) and approved minutes from Dec. 14, 2021 and Jan. 5, 2022. During public comment Ms. Renee Volf said she “appreciated the Board having a night meeting so that she is able to attend,” and Alan Stewart inquired about the status of the local newspaper. The board also approved an appointment to the Health Board (Ida Daughtry) and approved qualifying fees for the 2022 elections.
The meeting ran from 6:00 P.M. to 7:14 P.M.; the board moved its February meeting to Feb. 15, 2022 at 6:00 P.M.
