Coffee County approves $112,500 John Deere skid steer for road department

The Coffee County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 6 to purchase a John Deere 333G skid steer for the county Road Department for $112,500, awarding the contract to Dobbs Equipment.
County Administrator Wesley Vickers recommended the purchase after presenting three bids and noting the low Kubota bid did not meet the specified equipment requirements. The bids presented were: Crosby Kubota SVL97-2HFC for $104,565 (30–60 day warranty, 2 years/2,000 hours listed), Dobbs Equipment John Deere 333G for $112,500 (120-day warranty, 5 years/3,000 hours listed), and Yancey CAT 299D3XE for $136,159 (warranty not stated). "The Kubota does not meet the specs," County Administrator Wesley Vickers said when presenting his recommendation.
Vice-Chairman Jimmy Kitchens moved to approve the Dobbs bid; Commissioner A.J. Dovers seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The purchase was processed as a routine procurement item on the Feb. 6 agenda; county officials did not record any abstentions or dissent on the vote. The commission adjourned at 10:11 a.m.
