Southern Crescent Technical College outlines workforce programs and local partnerships to Fayette County commissioners

Dr. Irvin Clark, president of Southern Crescent Technical College, told the Fayette County Board of Commissioners on March 28 that the college system currently registers more than 6,000 students and is expanding programs that feed local workforce needs. He described the Fayette County Center’s dual-enrollment and adult-education offerings and cited partnerships with Fayette County schools, Clayton State University, the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and the Fayette County Development Authority.
Clark outlined several industry-focused initiatives aimed at high-demand sectors, including a Commercial Driver’s License and entrepreneurship track for graduating seniors, an LPN-to-paramedic-to-RN bridge pathway, and apprenticeship programs. He highlighted the RAAME Center, a capital outlay training facility designed to provide hands-on instruction aligned with employer needs.
Responding to a question from Commissioner Eric K. Maxwell about aviation programs, Clark said the college does not now operate an FAA-registered aviation program but noted the Machine Tool program has direct ties to the aviation industry and that Delta recruits from that program. Clark also said Southern Crescent and Fayette County Fire and EMS are moving toward an EMS/paramedic articulation agreement.
Chairman Lee Hearn thanked Clark for the presentation and Clark said he planned to return next year with student-success updates and program growth data.
