County schedules highway 5‑year plan hearing, approves surplus sale and accepts personnel resignations

At its Sept. 25 meeting the Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners set a public hearing on the Highway 5‑Year Plan for Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m., approved a county online surplus sale for Oct. 9 and accepted personnel actions including two resignations and a 911 wage funding change.
Highway Superintendent Doug Cimpl reviewed gravel crushing locations and related plans and told the commission he will work to repair 386th Avenue north of Lake Andes after a request from Lake View Colony representatives. The board scheduled a public hearing on the highway 5‑year plan for Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m.; no action on the plan was taken at the Sept. 25 meeting.
The board approved the county’s online surplus sale for Oct. 9 listing vehicles, office furniture, mowers and v‑plows, and approved a tax sale that includes one property in Platte, one in Pickstown and one in Ravinia. Commissioner Kory Standy moved to approve the surplus list and Chairman Colin Soukup seconded; the motion carried.
On personnel, the board accepted the resignation of Jailer Olivia Petrik (effective Sept. 16) and the resignation of Deputy Register of Deeds DaNay Loseke (effective Oct. 3). The commission also approved changing Denise Weber’s 911 wages from the 911 Fund to the General Fund and establishing a flat stipend of $1,000 per year for that position; the motion passed on recorded action. The board entered executive session at 12:05 p.m. to discuss personnel under SDCL 1‑25‑2 and reconvened at 12:21 p.m. with no action taken in open session.
These administrative and operational items position county staff to proceed with planned surplus disposition, highway planning and the personnel transitions recorded in the minutes.
