Charles Mix County commissioners on Oct. 9 approved the county 5-Year Highway Plan for 2026'030 following a presentation from Highway Superintendent Doug Cimpl.
The plan was adopted by motion of Commissioner Kory Standy, seconded by Vice Chairman Nick Stotz, and carried unanimously. During the meeting, Cimpl reviewed gravel crushing and site plans, noted a public hearing on the 5-Year Plan scheduled for Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m., and said FEMA closeout work for 2024 disasters is complete. He also mentioned CDL requirements for staff and concerns about grass along county roads.
The adoption formalizes the county highway priorities and enables planned gravel crushing and road maintenance projects identified in the 2026'030 schedule. The board did not record any amendments to the plan in the minutes. Implementation steps discussed include scheduling crushing locations and compliance with CDL staffing needs.
The plan approval followed the Highway Department presentation and does not record additional public testimony at the Oct. 9 meeting; the public hearing on Oct. 14 remains a formal opportunity for further public comment.
