The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners adopted the county’s 2026 budget and set the property tax levy during a regular meeting at the courthouse in Lake Andes on Sept. 25.
On motions recorded in the minutes, the board approved a 2026 budget showing total revenue of $10,750,000 and total expenses of $10,750,000 for the fiscal year Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2026. The commission also adopted a levy of 3.075 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which the minutes record as producing $5,575,905 in General Fund property tax revenue. Vice Chairman Nick Stotz moved to approve the levy resolution and Commissioner Kory Standy seconded; the minutes record the motion as carried unanimously.
Before final adoption the board voted to amend Emergency Management funding from $50,000 to $80,000. Commissioner Kory Standy moved the amendment, and Vice Chairman Nick Stotz seconded; the amendment and the budget as amended were approved on recorded motion.
Auditor Jason Gant presented the Auditor’s Account with Treasurer for the month ending Aug. 31, 2025, showing total deposits of $7,545,202.72, $600.00 in cash, $47,181.09 in checks and a total of $7,592,983.81. The Treasurer’s Report accepted the same ending balance and listed a beginning balance of $7,972,506.06, total revenue of $622,877.08 and total expenses of $1,002,399.33 for the month.
The board’s actions formalize the county’s spending plan for 2026 and allocate the increased Emergency Management appropriation approved at the meeting. The minutes record no dissenting votes. The commission adjourned at 12:31 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the courthouse.
