Clinton County supervisors receive department updates; approve $12,812.40 claim for drainage repair

Clinton County supervisors on Feb. 23 heard routine departmental reports covering elections, tax-credit discussions, emergency preparedness, facility maintenance, staffing and conservation programs, and approved claims that included a $12,812.40 payment for drainage repair.
David Troester, Clinton County auditor, reminded the public the primary election is set for June 2, 2026. The Treasurer reported several bills are moving forward at the state level, including discussion about improving the disabled and elderly property tax credit and preparations for upcoming property tax collections.
Emergency Management reported the county’s scheduled emergency preparedness exercise was postponed after FEMA notified officials that travel restrictions prevented evaluation; a replacement date was not provided and must still be completed this year. Building Maintenance said new boilers at the Law Center are being installed and expected to be completed within a few days; bids for new card readers at the Law Center have been received and will be presented at the next board meeting. Building Maintenance also said the county is exploring a non-urgent, long-term plan to refurbish the courthouse’s vintage light poles.
Human Resources reported the recent Polar Plunge fundraiser raised about $2,500 for the Conservation Board, recognized Scott Harris as he approaches his first anniversary as a medical examiner transporter, and highlighted current county job openings, including reserve and deputy positions in the Sheriff’s Office and a full-time custodial role at the administration building. Conservation staff called this year’s Polar Plunge probably the coldest on record, thanked supporting agencies and encouraged the public to follow the Conservation Facebook page for upcoming programs, including watercolor activities at Rock Creek.
On claims, the board approved the Claims Approval Report, which listed a payable to Kleinschmidt Excavating for DD #7 lateral B repair in the amount of $12,812.40 charged to the Treasury Management Fund (Fund 9999). The meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2026.
