Rawlins County sets Register of Deeds pay at $51,000 after she requested higher raise

Register of Deeds Janice Bohme asked the Rawlins County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 12 to increase her 2026 pay, saying she had requested at least $51,000 during budget talks and later sought $52,530 to reflect her office’s workload. Commissioners discussed differences in extra pay that some offices receive for duties such as elections and motor vehicle services and noted large percentage raises are uncommon in the public sector.
After discussion, Commissioner Alan A. Solko moved to set Bohme’s 2026 pay at $51,000; Commissioner Mark Mosley seconded the motion and it carried. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; the minutes state only that the motion carried.
County Clerk Rachel Finley was asked to provide a list of the amounts that were budgeted for 2026 raises for elected officials and department heads; the commissioners said they will review those amounts at their next meeting. Appraiser Alicia Baumfalk spoke in support of Bohme’s work, saying she works with Bohme almost daily and finds her helpful to attorneys and to county operations.
The board also approved the Jan. 2, 2026 meeting minutes and signed abatements from the appraisal office during the same session. The commissioners directed no further immediate changes to salary structures at the meeting; additional decisions on raises were deferred to the next scheduled meeting.
