Rawlins County approves $12,295 purchase of replacement landfill trailer

Corey Castens, who oversees landfill and recycling operations, reported he inspected several used trailers and found a trailer in Sydney, Nebraska that passed the 2026 DOT inspection; a trailer in Goodland had a hole in the bottom and a leaking roof. Castens recommended buying the Sydney trailer, priced at $12,295, and the board agreed to use funds from the Equipment Reserve Fund to complete the purchase if the trailer is in good condition. Commissioner Alan A. Solko moved to approve the purchase and Commissioner Mark Mosley seconded; the motion carried.
Castens also noted that the landfill reseeding was performed by Cahoj and said he will contact Chris Miller at Miller & Associates before the reseeding warranty expires on April 7, 2026. The minutes record no additional financing detail beyond the source (Equipment Reserve Fund) and the purchase price.
