Albemarle Commission offers grant, workforce and aging services to Washington County

Melody Williams, newly introduced as Director of the Albemarle Commission, told the Washington County Board on June 3 that the Commission stands ready to assist the county with economic-development projects and a range of regional services.
Williams noted that Chair Tracey A. Johnson serves as chair of the Commission’s board and said services include grant-writing support, a revolving loan fund, Area Agency on Aging programs, rural planning organization (RPO) assistance, oversight of workforce services (NWDB/NC Works), and educational seminars on topics such as the U.S. Census, state infrastructure funding and sex-trafficking awareness.
County Manager Curtis Potter added that the Albemarle Commission offers training on waterworks, forums on pre-formatted state grants, and periodic County Manager/Board Chair meetings across the region. Williams and staff asked the Board how the Commission could support Washington County and highlighted recent Commission efforts to pursue regional broadband funding priorities.
What’s next: County staff may follow up with the Albemarle Commission on specific grant or training needs and consider attendance at scheduled regional seminars.
