Commissioners approve consent agenda, budget changes and appoint new emergency management coordinator

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved routine items and several formal actions at its March 3, 2020 meeting.
Commissioner Sexton moved to approve the Consent Agenda, which included minutes, tax refunds and releases, multiple resolutions and proclamations and a pay plan modification; Commissioner Riddick seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Finance Officer Missy Dixon presented budget amendments and transfers; Commissioner Riddick moved approval, Commissioner Sexton seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Dixon noted she is monitoring overtime in the 911 center.
The board recessed to closed session three times: under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 143‑318.11(a)(6) for personnel, § 143‑318.11(a)(4) for economic development, and § 143‑318.11(a)(3) for attorney‑client privilege. Returning to open session after the personnel closed session, the board approved County Manager Potter’s appointment of Lance Swindell as Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator effective March 16, 2020; the motion was made by Commissioner Riddick, seconded by Commissioner Sexton and carried unanimously.
Chair D. Cole Phelps adjourned the meeting at 9:00 PM.
