Washington County board approves budget transfers, schedules FY27 workshop and enters closed session; auditors may present in March

At its Jan. 5, 2026 meeting the Washington County Board of Commissioners handled routine procedural business, approved budget amendments, scheduled workshops, and voted to enter a closed session.
Finance Officer Missy Dixon reviewed budget transfers and amendments included in the commissioners' packet. Commissioner Carol V. Phelps moved to approve budget transfers/amendments BT/BA #2026-045–046; Commissioner Ann C. Keyes seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
County Manager Curtis S. Potter announced the first FY27 budget workshop discussion is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Commissioners’ Room; the board noted auditors' numbers were not yet available and auditors may present at the March 2, 2026 meeting. The board also voted to recess the meeting and reconvene for the January 21 workshop.
Commissioner Phelps moved, and Commissioner Walker seconded, that the board go into closed session pursuant to NCGS 143-318.11(a)(3) (attorney‑client privilege) and NCGS 143-318.11(a)(6) (personnel); the motion carried unanimously. The meeting was recessed until Jan. 21, 2026.
