Registrar outlines redistricting mailings; Crossroads CSB reports service numbers; VDOT gives safety update

Jenni Booth, Charlotte County registrar, said the county’s redistricting plan is complete and that the State will mail new voter cards beginning Sept. 19 to all registered voters. Booth said staff worked to correct mapping errors and requested a new laptop (quoted price $1,937.06) for a part-time employee and about $500 for postage; Assistant County Administrator Monica Elder said an additional county check would be needed for postage.
Dr. Melba Moore, executive director of Crossroads Community Services Board, said Charlotte County contributes $73,000 annually to CCSB within a regional budget of about $17 million. Moore reported that in 2022 CCSB completed 561 evaluations, handled 209 emergency custodies and 177 temporary detention orders, conducted two crisis intervention trainings and provided services to roughly 1,650 people; she also noted a 3% salary increase for staff and outlined priorities to update policies and telephone and computer systems.
Scott Frederick, VDOT engineer, corrected previously reported local numbers and said Charlotte County’s relevant statistics for the reporting period included a population of 11,953, 8,092 licensed drivers, 172 total crashes and five fatalities (0 alcohol-related deaths; four speed-related fatalities; four unbelted fatalities), giving a death rate of 0.62 per 1,000 drivers compared with a 2021 statewide rate of 1.13 per 1,000 drivers. He listed roads scheduled for patching and noted bridge timber work on Rt. 658 pending railroad clearance.
