Sonya Weaver said the shelter is undersized and understaffed and lacks holding cells for cats, and she recommended that the Animal Control Officer role not be combined with unrelated duties. Beth Reynolds told the Board she believed the county was violating codes, reported that the shelter’s phone line does not work, said the shelter is not open for the posted 30 minutes and added there is no outdoor area for animals. Reynolds asked the Board to create a position solely for the animal shelter and to stop treating animal care as part of general maintenance duties.
Supervisor Gary D. Walker closed the public comment period after the speakers; the transcript does not show the Board immediately approving changes or directing staff to create a new position on Sept. 12.
