Supervisors allocate $1,685 to replace DHR marker Z-46

The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors voted Oct. 11 to appropriate $1,685 for half the cost to replace DHR historic marker Z-46.
County Administrator Daniel Witt asked the board for direction on a Department of Historic Resources (DHR) marker request. Supervisor Garland H. Hamlett Jr. moved to fund half the replacement cost; Supervisor Hazel Bowman Smith seconded the motion. All supervisors present voted Aye.
Chairman Gary D. Walker asked Administrator Witt to investigate other damaged historic markers in the county and report back. During public comment, Kathy Liston said marker prices had increased by about $1,400 since last year, a concern the board did not dispute at the meeting.
The action authorizes county funds for the Z-46 replacement and directs staff to survey other markers for possible future action.
