The Durham Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation Aug. 26 naming August 2024 "Leaders in Equitable Economic Development Month," highlighting the legacy and contributions of historically Black businesses in Durham and urging support for minority entrepreneurship.
Chair Nida Allam read and signed the proclamation on behalf of the Board. Shannon Trapp, Chief of Staff, briefed the Board on MED Week events scheduled for Oct. 14–17 and noted a vendor meet-and-greet held Aug. 18.
Interim County Attorney Curtis Massey announced appointments to several advisory bodies. Appointed members included John Lawler and Steven Bergman to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission; Tonia Dixon to the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee; Elisabeth Harper Wiener and (incumbent) Brian Mulligan to the Dangerous Dog Appeal Board; and Ivanhoe Francis, Leah Josephson and Lauren Schewel to the Library Board of Trustees. Voting patterns and recommending commissioners were recorded in the meeting packet; the transcript indicates the Board made the listed appointments and that voting results were announced by the Interim County Attorney.
