Durham commissioners issue several proclamations and share community event notices

At its Sept. 9 meeting the Durham Board proclaimed World Alzheimer’s Awareness Day, Welcoming Week, National Hispanic Heritage Month and Recovery Month and shared event information and resources including elections updates and community forums.
Durham County commissioners used their Sept. 9 meeting to adopt multiple proclamations and announce community events and resources.
Proclamations read by commissioners and county staff included World Alzheimer’s and Dementia Awareness Day (with a Dementia Inclusive Community Forum on Sept. 20), Welcoming Week (Sept. 13–22) and National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15). Commissioners also proclaimed National Recovery Month and noted related local programming and events, including a Recovery Community of Durham celebration on Sept. 27.
Monica Wallace, Clerk to the Board, also read administrative announcements including the Board of Elections’ move to the Shoppes of Hope Valley, availability of the new DCo Votes mobile app and sample ballots for the Nov. 5 statewide general election. Several county departments flagged upcoming public meetings and engagement sessions related to the Unified Development Ordinance and aging services.
Speakers emphasized that registration or additional information for events is available through agency webpages and that some registration fees may be waived in individual cases.
