GoDurham ACCESS study: county and city to coordinate paratransit, senior shuttle, limited hours

GoDurham ACCESS representatives presented the Paratransit Improvement Services Study to the Board during the Sept. 3 work session.
Brian Fahey, Mobility Services Manager for GoDurham ACCESS, explained the service provides curb‑to‑curb ADA paratransit within City limits and offers door‑to‑door or demand‑response options for county residents who are age 60 or older, have disabilities, or live in rural parts of Durham County. Fahey said GoDurham ACCESS is coordinating with employers to provide transportation options for nontraditional work hours, particularly around the airport, but confirmed the service will not operate 24 hours a day and will align hours with GoDurham fixed‑route service.
Fahey also said GoDurham ACCESS has partnered with Aging Well Durham to create a senior shuttle. Ellen Beckmann, AICP, Durham County Transportation Director, said a coordinated bike plan will be developed with the City and emphasized a large unmet need for sidewalks across the county.
