City Engineer Daniel Bender told the Parma Heights City Council on Sept. 26 that bids for the Nathan Hale Storm Basin Project, which opened in July, were rejected under Ordinance 2022-31 and that the administration intends to re-advertise the contract.
"I'm here today to ask council to permit the release of the bid bonds from the bidders," Bender said. Councilman Stavole moved to release all bid bonds; Councilwoman Walsh seconded the motion. The motion passed with the recorded ayes of Walsh, Stavole, Haase, Maruschak, Durichko and Council President Tom Rounds; there were no nays.
The release of bid bonds allows bidders to recover their bid guarantees while the city prepares to solicit new proposals. Bender did not provide timing or a new solicitation date during the meeting. The council did not take further substantive action on the project at the Sept. 26 session beyond the bond-release vote.
Background: the council referenced Ordinance 2022-31 as the authority under which the earlier bids were rejected; Bender characterized the next step as readvertising the project.
Next steps: City staff will proceed with re-advertising the Nathan Hale Storm Basin Project and will notify interested contractors; the council did not set a date for a subsequent report at this meeting.
