Morgan County DHS reports benefit payment changes amid federal shutdown; board approves July warrants and vendor certifications

The Morgan County Board of Commissioners met Oct. 21 and, while convening as the Board of Social/Human Services, approved July operating warrants of $380,508.66 and payroll direct deposits of $229,407.89, for a total of $609,916.55, Accounting Manager Susan Nitzel said. Commissioners approved the Certification of Provider and Vendor Benefit Authorizations for July 2025 showing $855,984.29 in monthly expenditures.
Director Jacque Frenier and Deputy Director Rogelio Segura told the board that a federal government shutdown would stop Colorado SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) payments in November until the shutdown ends. Segura urged residents to use local food banks and noted that LEAP energy‑assistance applications open Nov. 1 and run through March 30; those who qualify may also receive home weatherization services.
The board approved the warrants and certification on 3‑0 votes. Commissioners and staff emphasized that community resources — local food pantries and an upcoming food bank in Brush — are available while federal benefits are interrupted. The board recessed the DHS session at 9:11 a.m.
