The Spencer County Fiscal Court approved $1,360 July 3 to buy two signs for local historic cemeteries after the Spencer County Historical & Genealogical Society presented restoration work and cost estimates.
Terri Cooper outlined work at Little Mount Colored Cemetery and Carrithers Cemetery, including clearing overgrowth, stabilizing headstones and addressing three large dead trees at Carrithers that risk damaging graves. Cooper said the society would like two 4—x5— signs if costs allow, and shared a Kile Signs estimate showing $680 per sign; the court approved the purchase.
Judge Travis and magistrates voiced support for the restoration work. The funds will be used to purchase and install the signs as described in submitted quotes. The court recorded the motion and approved the expenditure by voice vote.
