Spencer County clerk urges upgrade to election camera system; court takes no action

County Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock told the Fiscal Court the county's voting-equipment camera system is unreliable and difficult to manage and urged the court to consider replacing and consolidating cameras so footage can be downloaded from her office.
"It was not a good camera system," Hesselbrock said, explaining she has had to hire outside help to download footage and was charged $265 the last time. She told the court she wants a consolidated system so "I can download it inside my office," which she said is a statutory requirement after elections.
The clerk presented three bids to replace or upgrade the recorder and cameras; the lowest priced vendor in the packet was Liberty Telephone, which she said had installed election-camera systems for other county clerks to meet statutory rules. Judge Travis and others discussed short-term alternatives such as moving the existing monitor and recording box into the clerk's office and investigating hardwired connections to improve functionality.
No purchase or contract was approved at the July 17 meeting; the judge invited members to inspect the storage room and footage setup and asked staff to explore wiring and relocation options before making a capital purchase decision.
