Main Street seeks large signage grant; court approves $4,000 for Christmas on Main

Representatives of the Main Street committee asked the Spencer County Fiscal Court on Oct. 16 for financial support to install entry signage and presented a packet of five projects totaling about $65,000 in asks, including $39,919.20 for three entry signs.
Main Street representatives Michael Easter and Terry Vaughn emphasized that fundraising proceeds are returned to local projects and asked the court for county participation. Several magistrates questioned the bid amounts and asked Main Street to obtain additional quotes; one speaker noted personal donations to the effort.
The court took no funding action on the signage request and asked Main Street to get more competitive quotes. Separately the court approved a $4,000 appropriation to the Christmas on Main committee after chair Sandy Clevenger presented a budget and current fundraising totals; the committee will receive presenting-sponsor recognition for the appropriation.
Magistrates said they wanted to be prudent with county funds given multiple nonprofit requests and asked Main Street to provide more competitive bids for the signage project before the court will consider direct funding.
